I've been searching in vain for a solution to the first shot flyer. I know some have no issue with this, however, I have a significant issue with multiple rifles and various powders. It is more pronounced with my powder of choice, BH 209.
Just last week while shooting the Super Disc. I noticed it one again.
The only solution to date for me is to shoot my gun to foul the bore prior to hunting. While sometimes possible, I do live a city life and my neighbors get nervous when I fire a squib shot in the back yard. Also, I dislike leaving my gun fouled for prolonged periods.
I was reading somewhere about CF Match Shooters using liquid graphite to mimic a fouled barrel. I was at the hardware store and it was going to cost me $3 to prove or disprove the theory.
Same gun and round as last week. At home, I swabbed with a wet patch, a dry patch and then a patch of liquid graphite. When I got to the range, I fired two primers and loaded. Shot 1 was right there in the group. I did pull #4 when the guy in the next booth shot a cannon just as I pulled the trigger. That miss was on me. The other 4 piled right in.
This needs more testing but the first try was very encouraging.
