Fresh water mussels

Just wondering if anyone had any good reciepes on freshwater mussels. I've got access to tons of freshwater mussel on a local river.

HELLO, is this thing on??????????????????? I am hitting the northwoods this Friday with access to plenty of these fresh water jewels. What's the deal with them.......Can I eat them???

I have two excellent recipes I use with mussels I buy from Costco. If you think they might work with your mussels, I'd be happy to post them.

One is for a pasta with a red sauce, the other is for mussels steamed in white wine.

Thank you. My concern is the safety from eating fresh water muscles as far as pollution and contaminants are concerned. Shell fish are bottom feeders. The "downhill" thing is a concern. But I'd love to see your recipes just the same.
