Hi,
I’ve bought a replacement frizzen from Track Of The Wolf. Confirmed it’s the correct metallurgy for through hardening.
I’m wondering if I should oven temper after hardening to reduce the brittleness.
If I do this will the toe still be hard enough to skate on the frizzen spring? I suppose I could carefully re harden the toe
if needed.
I tried re-hardening an old frizzen with Tru-Spark, a surface hardening compound, and didn’t get great results.
The face isn’t hard enough, can still lightly scratch with a file, and the process involved tempering with a torch
as the final step. However, I found this softened the toe end so that it was too soft to skate on the spring.
