I recieved my new Cabelas Shooting/Reloading catalog today. As I was thumbing my way through the optics section I turned to page 143 and saw the strangest looking optic critter I have ever seen! NEW FOR 2006-VX-L 50 mm scope. You gotta check this one out! It would look good sitting on top of one of those Thumbholes!

I'm trying to decide if I'd even OWN one of those or not. I don't care how sophisticated the optics are...IMO that is one ugly scope. But hey..I thought the Ford Taurus was ugly when it came out!

I saw that too and I feel like you Chuck don't know if I'd buy one or not.

It's a neat concept. Maybe something to look at for all the guys who love 50MM scopes and don't love the high rings. Course the price tag will get you.

I agree very bizarre and I wonder if the market is ready for such a radical change.

It sort of validates the old Redfield/Widefield design. Is the gold ring bunch under new mgt.? It seems they have been doing a lot of new "stuff" in the past couple of years.
Take care, have fun....

I would think this would really take care of mounting scopes canted! It doesn'y look like there is a lot of room for error.

Being able to mount that big scope down that low makes sense. It is ugly though... looks like it got real hot.

I wonder if you loose any of the over all objective with that design?

You have to, it's surface area. If I remember right it's equivelent to a 47 MM objective.

Guess I don't understand the point of it then, just use a 44mm and use the same rings and save some $$$.

I think it's more of a marketing gimmick. It's a neat concept though.
