H&R ultra hunter 45-70 smokeless conversion gets first Blood! I’ve hunted a lot since New Years Day & it’s been cold. Seen several does and a small 8 pointer. I took vacation today and was thinking a good buck would show up. Wind out of the south & 24 degrees. 7:00am and he walks in about 30 yards lol after all that 100yard plus shooting. 195 Barnes in HLBS blew the top off the heart and 30 yards he piled up. Probably my #2 or 3 biggest buck

No, H&R handi rifles are not being made anymore. The ultra hunter had a 24" barrel with laminated thumbhole stocks in stainless. I liked this handi grip stock better so i swapped out the forend with what they called the survivor forend & the handi grip but stock. Its a nice lightweight rig. Forend has a thumbscrew you can take off by hand. I use a collapsible ram rod in my hunting vest.

I bought receivers and barrels for all my kids & this was 1 i bought right before they were no more. Barrels are fairly steep priced on ebay now.

The favorite is the 357 barrel i reamed to 357 maximum. Can shoot 38 specials in for target fun. These were kinda of the cheap TC alternative. Barrels need fitted to receivers and don't always fit like TC's did with all recievers.

Nice buck, and nice rig! Didn't know NEF made a 45-70 in stainless. Only 30 yards, but isn't it comforting to know that you could have reached out and touched him if needed?
