I'm going to buy a muzzleloader, probably an NEF. So I'm looking for an inexpensive scope. Shot range may be for 75yards to 150 yards. Thanks.

Big,
Just a regular 4x32 BSA Scope from Wal-Mart will work well for this. You might only pay $40 tops for one. Other than that, any shotgun scope would work well. They handle the recoil very well.

Check out this site

I learned along time ago that you are better off scrimping on the firearm and buying a better scope. Check out the prices at the optic zone :
www.theopticzone.com Great stuff at great prices!

Big,
No, there's nothing that says it has to be a shotgun scope, they're just built better to handle recoil. Not knocking anybody for putting $$$ into their ML's or optics, but if you can save $$$ and your equipment is dependable, the deer or other game you're hunting is still just as dead as the more expensive stuff. My philosophy is that no matter how expensive you're equipment is, it still takes user skill. However, don't get me wrong there are some truly crappy ML's and optics out there. The well known, dependable brands range from inexpensive to outrageous. In the end, it's just the shooter's preference on how much they're willing to spend. Good luck and have fun.

I'm buying a middle of the road gun so I was planning on getting a middle of the road scope. If I had the money I'd buy the best, but I don't. Rifles are not legal in IL. and I want a muzzelloader to take with me since they are more accurate beyond 100 yards. One of my stands will be a great muzzelloader stand.

Can anyone tell me what all of this means on this expample?

Well, I remembered my dad has a scope on his lever action 45-70. So I called him and he said that I could use it. He thinks it's a Weaver Buckmaster. Sound familiar?

I agree with what Indian Hunter said, "You get what you pay for". Most of my scopes were in the $100 area and all have served me well. Only 2 exception were Bausch and Lomb 4200 in 6 - 24 for my Varmint rifle and about 3 weeks ago I bought a new Bushnell 3200 elite in 4 - 12. I wanted that scope for 2 reason. The slight higher magnification for range purposes and the rainguard for hunting. I can tell you that it's a pleasure to shoot. First outing produced a group small than 1 inch, and that was just to sight it in. IMO it was well worth the $359 (Can) I spent.

ML scope

I'll second the Elite 3200 in 4-12X40 being a great choice. I just bought one for 239.99 (US)with free shipping from Durham's outdoors. this one will go on my .30-06 and I'll keep the Elite 3200 3-9X40 on my Omega.

Dickssportinggoods.com has a nikon buckmaster 3x9 on clearance for 149.99. NO tax and free shipping

I'll try some of it:

Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 Black Powder Rifle Scope Matte Circle-X 71-3944

Power x Obj. 3-9x40 = 3 is the lowest magnification (3 times what you are looking at; 9 is the greatest magnification for seeing farther out. I think 40 is the maximum field of view (the area you see when looking through the scope)

Reticle Circle-X = This is the "cross hairs" inside the scope you aim with. This has the "circle X" style

FOV, ft.@1000yds. / m@1000m 36/12@3x / 13/4.3@9x = The area you can see (field of view) at different powers at 1000 yards or meters. (36 yards/12 meters at 3 power
13 yards/4.3 meters at 9 power

Exit Pupil, mm 13@3x / 4.4@9x = Like your eye - how much light is getting in (I think)

Eye Relief, mm 4.0/102 ??

Click Value, in@100yds. / mm@100m .25/7= When you make adjustments on the top or side dials this is how much it changes where the bullet hits based on 100 yards. 1 "click" of the dial= 1/4"(.25) or 7mm. So 4 clicks will move your shot 1"

Adj. Range, in@100yds/m@100m 30/1.7 = how adjustable the above numbers are -30 inches at 100 yards or 1.7 meters

Mntng. Length, in./mm 5.6/143

Finish Matte

Weight, oz./g 12.5/354

Length, in./mm 11.5/292
