new to web site and my new savage smokeless muzzleloader.
I have picked up imr 4759 and 250 grain hornidy sst's.
I also ordered some vitavouri n110 and barnes 275 grain pistol bullets.
I am a little confused on types of sabots to use.
Any help or suggestions on loads or sabots would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for a place to start.
Thanks
Jeff

Welcome to the Forum.

MMP short Black sabots would be a great start.

Use the N110 for 250 class bullets. And the 4759 for 300 class bullets.

I would also try some 250grn XTP'S with your N110. 38 to 42grns should work just fine.

Your 250 SST come with sabots. They're a little long though. Use a nail clipper and trim then down a touch.

RAF,
I am "New to this Site" but I have been on a few others. Please educate me on this "Nail Clipper Trimming" & Long Sabots.

Buy the short black MMP sabot and no trimming is needed.

Welcome to the forum!

You can certainly use the sabots that come with your 250gr SSTs but most toss them and use a new, current formulation MMP sabot. I'd probably try the MMP short black sabot first with both the 250gr SSTs AND the Barnes 275gr XBP. As far as loads go, here's what I'd try first in order of preference:

1. 250gr SST/MMP short black sabot 42gr VV N-110
2. 250gr SST/MMP short black sabot 42-44gr SR-4759
3. 275gr XBP/MMP short black sabot 42-44gr SR-4759

You MAY need to fine-tune your powder charge +/- 1gr to get BEST accuracy. Good luck and report back on how you do!

Take your finger nail clipper and put it over each petal as far as it will go. Try to make the cut square. Mine takes off just over 1/4 inch.
