Same thing on the smaller Great Lakes. Last week 62 fisherman had to be resqued because a piece of ice broke off. No fish, no nothing worth a risk like that. But it happens every year and often times many times a year. My tax dollars being used to save these people. Kinda irritates me a lot.
 
All of these dorks got plucked from the ice but had to eave their equipment. All paid private entities to go back out and salvage the gear. The ice was maybe 7". At that thickness on Lake Superior, a breeze of under 10mph will dislodge any ice hung at shore and it what happened here. This is an annual thing. Sometimes several times each winter on Superior alone. Too many toddies me thinks. Or genetics run amok.
