Low volume substitute

Hello, I’m looking for a black powder substitute that take up less volume compared to normal substitutes. Do you have any recommendation?

Well since we are in the “smokeless alternative muzzleloading” section, are you thinking smokeless powder as an alternative to using a high volume of a bp sub (in a rifle rated for smokeless of course)?

There is no such thing as a flintlock designed/rated for smokeless to my knowledge.

There are a couple smokeless powder designed to duplicate blackpowder performance for Cowboy Action Shooters. Trail Boss by Hodgdon, and TinStar(N32C discontinued) by Vihta Vouri. But neither is safe to use in any firearm not rated for smokeless powders. And to my knowledge they will not work in a flintlock. Also, they are both very bulky powders. Designed to fill a large case(volume) while not actually being a lot of(weight) powder. High volume, low density. So not exactly what you were asking for. As far as substitutes go, that you can use in a flintlock, i think there are very few.

Do not use any smokeless powder in a rifle not designated for smokeless. You may end up in the ER or a cemetery.
