I have a T/C omega in 50 cal. that I want to put a scope on For the upcoming whitetale season. Any suggestions on what equipment I should purchase. What I am really interested in is what I HAVE TO HAVE and HOW TO MOUNT the scope. I would like to maintain the ability to use my fiberoptic open sights for shots within 50 yards.

Thanks,

Hey Wolfie!
Probably your best best is to go with Maxima 1-piece base with Maxima QD rings.

You also might want to get some blue Devcon thread locker/Prime Lok #245 Blue for the base screws.

I'm thinking this is all you will need. You can easily remove the breechplug on the Omega and bore-site to get yourself on paper once scope/mount is installed.

BTW...Your scope will have to be kinda on the compact side in order to leave the rear open site on the Omega. About 11.25 inches is as long as the scope really needs to be.

I appreciate it. I'm thinking about getting a tasco scope in 3-9 But I don't really know anything about thier quality or reliability. Also all the scopes i've found w/ 3-9 magnification seem to be over 12" long. Seeing as I am still in highschool I need to keep It under about 80 bucks. I know everyone has differant thoughts of differant scopes. What do you think?

I know you want to only spend $80, but optics are worth much more if you do it right the first time. You would be much better off waiting to get better optics. Couple two or three extra months might put you into a "quality set of optics"?
What are your primary use for this optic set-up(3-9x)? Hunting? Plinking? IMO, try something about the 1.5-5x range, or maybe 2-7x...both choices would be much better for hunting(better field of view). 3.5-10x or 4-14x would be much better for hunting/plinking.

here's a link to look around on:

Look at the specs of the scope (or scopes) that interest you, then ask questions to find out what others think about it.

TASCO 3-9X40: I've had at least one of these. Nothing but problems! Adjustments didn't take and couldn't be repeated, and the parallax was awful.........maybe it was a re-furbished model? But it was advertised as new? I would avoid this one! Only my opinion.....

Good luck

For a few $ more you could try the Rifleman or the VX-I from Leupold. You will appreciate the difference in optics.

The following link will give you a little more options for big scopes at some discount prices. These are usually factory demos, or trade-in scopes.

IMO I like the clarity and eye relief that Leupold or Burris offer. Make your own judgments though. Go to a store that has quality optics and have them bring out a Tasco and a Leupold, Burris, Nikon, or any Lifetime Warranty scope, and look at the difference.

I highly do NOT recommend the lower end Tasco's. Used to be the Tasco World Class was at least decent, but no more.

I have gone through 3 Tasco world Class 3-9 scopes in 3 years. I amd done with them. Trying to save a few bucks has cost me a lot more in the long run. I switched to a Nikon Buckmaster last year and I really love it on my Omega. I just bought another one and put it on my Black Dimond. Its a few bucks more but it is going to be worth it in the long run. Its nice and bright. I got mine on sale at Dicks for $120.00 Usually go for just under $200.00 so watch for sales especially at the end of the season which is when I try to buy the stuff I need. Mike
