First got involved in Black powder guns in 1975 when I purchased a 1860 Navy in 44 however I shoot mostly modern guns. 16 years ago I bought my 2nd revolver an 1858 Remington. I eventually did a Kirst Cartridge conversion on it and loved it. I recently bought a third pistol, and 1851 Navy in .44 and immediately did another cartridge conversion on it. I am now considering doing a conversion on my 1860.

Like the OP I got my first black powder gun in 1975. A little gun shop/now long gone/ on the east side of Indianapolis. It was a Ruger Old Army. My Dad liked it so much he bought one himself. I now own both.
