It is interesting the various ways inventors tried to come up with a viable repeater. Colt beat them all in the to the punch in the 1830's with a workable model in both in the Patterson revolvers and various revolving rifles, carbines and shotguns.........and yet so unsuccessful was he that by the outbreak of the War with Mexico, he was almost destitute....his revolvers only meeting success with the Texas Rangers and only after the Texas Navy handed them off to the Rangers. His revolving rifles proved difficult for the 2nd Dragoons to use in the field, but to "Sam's" credit until Henry and Spencer model repeating cartridge guns, no one else came up with a better way to put lead down range from the same weapon repeatedly..............and yes I was thinking clarinet!
