Does anyone know someone who could rebore a 50 cal knight to 52 , and approximate price. Thanks

you can contact Bobby Hoyt he might do it, he told me he did not like doing inlines so he may or may not do it..cant find his number at the moment but if you do a search it should pop up..
Ed Rayls might do it also but last time I checked with him he had over a yr back log but that's been awhile so might be different now.
If you call Bobby call real early in the morning and just let phone ring as he has a hard time hearing it ring over his machinery or call about lunch time..
If you find out he will do them please post back as I have a couple Id like to get done in the future.

Thank you I will, I am a big fan of the 52 , and I want a short tree stand 52 , I have an old original disc in stainless that is around 22 inches, which I believe is a perfect stand gun. I remember something posted not long ago about cutting a barrel, I just don’t want to cut one of the three 52 guns I have 1 mountaineer and 2 long range hunters. The fluting would look bad I believe. The way it would end

Here is the number I have for Mr Hoyt 717-642-6696. He did a re bore for me. It was a TC New Englander 50cal re done to 52 cal with a 1-36 twist, mimicking the Sharps 50-70 govt twist. I went with shallow groves for shooting full bore lead bullets . He does nice work and very reasonable. Not sure if he will do an in line barrel. Let the phone ring and ring and ring some more.

I’d be surprised if Bobby will mess with an in-line, guess one can ask.
You might consider lining it.

when I talked to him about it along time ago he acted like he might but he did say he didn't like them so I took it as he preferred not to and left it at that.

I know that knight has them on sale but I have that barrel doing nothing, not to mention I live in nj so lt will cost me another 50 for the pleasure of signing my name and telling the state I don’t owe child support. The great socialist state I’m in. Bye the time I get it I am close to 600.

I wish Knight would offer a 1:20 Twist .45 Cal Barrel for the Old MK-85, Dream on huh? :D

Keep searching. At one time Knight did make a few MK-85's in a 45 fast twist. They are very rare to find.

I just need to break down and buy a 1:20 Twist Mountaineer, With the majority of my shooting from a Bench at Targets, I would like to shoot BH209, No worry of Blowback on my Scope Finish, The Mountaineer would be a better choice for me than a Plunger Gun. I look at them often :D

They were 1:24 twist in the MK-85 .45 calibers from the late 80's & early 90's.

Knight was selling those .52 cals for dirt cheap just a few years ago. I think they were reducing inventory down to a manageable level. Now they are like gold again.

The reason i mentioned them is Hoyt does not seem to be interested in reboring an inline. I never got a reply to 2 emails a few years ago.

I had Norman Johnson of High Plains Reboring & Barrels in Turtle Lake, ND take my Remington stainless 700 ML from .50 to .54 after I lent it to a friend for ML'er season. He fired Pyrodex pellets in it and didn't clean it for two weeks which resulted in the breech end looking like alligator skin. It wouldn't shoot worth a hoot after that. So I stripped it down and shipped the barreled action to High Plains. Told him I wanted .540" x .548" and 1-26" twist and it came back right on the money. It wasn't expensive, about $150 but this was around 10 years ago. Now knowing how gunsmiths are I wasn't in any hurry but it did take a year to get it back. I didn't really care as I have a lot of side hammer rifles to play with that keep me busy. It was worth it to me to have it back in the field instead of a tomato stake.

Looks like he might still be around too

Bobby told me he hardly ever gets around to answering emails he's to busy answering the phone and working.. I did the same thing emailed him and never heard back from him, got ahold of him 1st time I called but had to let phone ring for about 2 minutes though.
