ONe drill that we found helpful in developing offhand skill was to take the rifle (for us it was the M=1 or the M-14) in both hands, take a good grip on the pistol grip section with the trigger finger hand, rotate it to the 90 degree position and place the butt plate into the shoulder. Now rotate the rifle to shooting position and aim at a target or other object. Drop the forearm hand and hold the rifle in position with only the gripping hand and shoulder. After one full minute take the rifle down and relax a minute and then repeat the process. I don't like to brag- Actually I do like to brag- but I developed into a top offhand shooter at 200 yards against the best in the military. Shot a possible there hundreds of times. But hear this, rapid fire at 300 yard prone kept me watching someone take the trophies many matches. Ozark.
