Below is a mish mosh of parts i collected and assembled. 10" barrel, 1-66 twist, 45 caliber, unfired and a really nice bore. Iam going to experiment with some bullets a friend of mine modified for me. These were .454 and .490 Hornady round balls run thru his swage die. Major dia is .449 and length is .455 long. My barrel bore is .448 to .449 dia. I am thinking behind 40 grains 3F Swiss, an 1/8 thick fiber wad and this 177 grain bullet i have a close range, less than 50 yards, deer or hog getter. What do you think? I can also size down some 200 grain SWC Hornady's or some 230 grain RN Hornady's or some 255 grain Cowboy SWC lead. Lets see yours.

Those are swage formed bullets by my friend Omnivore from the '58 Remington Forum. He makes these to shoot in his revolver and his revolving carbine. They are HPHBSWC and some are pre serrated in the HP to help open up faster. The .490 or .495 rb yields a 180 grain bullet and the .452 or .457 rb yields a 140 grain bullet.

Now if your talking about these then they are left to right:
All Hornady .454 rb, .490 rb, 490 rb run thru my .452 Lee sizing die, 200 grn .452 SWC, 230 grn .452 LRN,

I would like to shoot them in my revolver. What weight? Are they .454? Or .457? I shoot a .454 220grn 2 groove bullet. I tried rb but the conical shoots better for me. Im looking for a good mold in 160-200.

Omni only has one swage die and it is a .449 major dia. and a heeled dia. of .444. This is good for most Pietta revolvers. Now my ASP revolvers have cylinders of .449-.450 and is a nice fit but i mostly use .452 rb in them. My Pietta Colt has cylinders of .447-.448. I get 25 grns 3F Swiss and my home made grease cookie then the 140 grn HPHBSWC and it is a nice load out of the 5 1/2 inch barrel. Not 10X with my eyesight but good enough at 15 yards. Hoping for better out of the 10" single shot. Was even thinking of swaging down some .54 cal .530 balls which would give a 225 grain bullet for the single shot but right now Hornady, Speer and several others have pure lead bullets i can use, but they may be too long to stabilize in a 10" long 1-66 twist barrel. One other thing i overlooked is length is critical in revolvers for powder capacity and also for the loading window to get bullet under ram rod. No problem in single shot pistols.

Just playing off the patio yesterday i think i am going to like it a lot. Looking for one now for my 1921 Mod 1894 Winchester. Front sight is going to be the problem i think.

Today i mixed up some BLL (well sorta) for my 45 cal bullets. I used 1/3 LLA, 1/3 odorless mineral spirits, 1/3 Cutting Board Wood Wax (contains beeswax, carnuba wax, and mineral spirits) ,and a touch of Lanolin. Put 2 deformed round balls in bottle for agitation. Got 12 of Omnivores 180 gr bullets to experiment with ( these are unserrated ). The od measure .2495 and my pistol bore is .249 go guage goes in and .250 go gauge does not. These will mostly be bore riding bullets. Will start out with 30grs of Goex 3F and maybe 10grs of COW on top of that then 180gr bullet. Will increase by 5grs every 3 shots. Not looking for bullseye but for grouping at 25 yds to start. Got to warm up for me. Sorry guys i am from Texas and 38 degrees and a blowing wind is more than these 68 year old bones can handle right now. Suppose to be 48 tomorrow and 62 Saturday and 73 Sunday and 74 Monday. NOW WE'RE TALKING. Will post results on how it goes.
