My very fine Renegade flintlock had a very poor frizzen/ pan fit. It contacted at the front of the pan leaving a gap at the rear large enough to QUICKLY lose prime. Probably explains her apparent lack of use.
CLACK... What the???
I was contemplating a new lock, or some fancy machine work, when I wondered if the frizzen pivot hole was a bit... off?
I had a n.o.s T/C frizzen, so I popped it on and... BINGO!
Not quite 100% contact, but 100% better!
I put a T/C factor aperture sight on her. Pulling the original rear sight, I found 4 holes instead of 2... Its not just hot glue/ wood putty in the inletting...
Anyway. She is the hardest ramming rifle I've ever had. Even with Crush Ribs, it takes a LOT of pressure. Never needed a starter for sabots before...
She is quite accurate though. Once zeroed, she'll be ready for flintlock season...
Yes, I'll be trying conicals, etc too. But I do prefer sabot loads. They've been good to me, and HARD on critters for 20 year or so.
