I did the patch pop only occasionally at first to see and compare how it was looking with this new method. Although I didn't point barrel down on the open cap pop, I did shake out the contents onto and old rag and did observe exactly what you mentioned, dry particles of fouling. Overall, I was happy with the results of everything that was mentioned here.
