Hi guys,

I've decided to go from pellets to BH209.

I want to purchase high quality equipment (powder flask and measurer) because I don't like buying junk, I want someting that is precise and will last even if I have to pay a little extra $ for it.

Can a few of you supply me with product names and companies or URLs to find these items?

Thanks!

Todd

If its a flask you want, consider a powder horn and a brass powder measure. Many stores sell pre made powder horns. Or you can buy them as a kit and fit your own. Its a good and basic way to carry powder.

An easier way since you want to shoot BH209 is get some loading tubes, pre measure as many charges as you like at the house and keep the tubes in your pocket or in a possible bag. Then you simply dump a pre measured charge, add your bullet and your set to shoot.

a powder horn like a bull's horn?

I like the idea of pre-measured loading tubes.

what about a measuring tube that has a glass tube with etched markings kinda like a pipet that we used in high school chemistry, or a metal tube with a glass window? either way so you can see exactly how much is in there, and therefore how much goes in the muzzle.

looking all over the web takes a long time to find what your after (but you run into some rather interesting results) so I'm hoping that some folks can share with me what they use or like.

Yes a bulls horn was the common used horn. You can buy them or kits, or raw horn and make your own.

I got away from the use of a flask or horn and prefer to keep the powder in the original sealed bottle. I just have a funnel for the powder bottle like this one.

A Great Vile to hold pre-measured powder is sold by member Lane in the classifieds of this forum (Sticky at the top). The markings are not for measuring powder but could be used as a "Visual Reference". For a 50cal you can use the "Long" 10ml tube as a speed loader too. Just put the bullet/sabot in bullet nose first, the pour the powder in, then unscrew the cap and pour in the powder and the bullet/sabot next. I can whole heartily recommend Lanes tubes. Check out the link above to what he sells. They are much more economical than anything on the market and will really last. (Man I sound like a commercial    )

Blackhorn also sells one but it is more expensive that Lanes.

Measures don't have to be expensive to be good. Brass or plastic will really measure the same. It really comes down to how you pour the powder and doing it the same way each time. The TC U-View has a great reputation.

A good Brass one is the Ted Cash.

Cabela's also sells their own brass one as well as one for Pedersoli.

Personally If I were getting new stuff, I would just get the bottle funnel, some Lane's Tubes and the TC U-View.

the U-View do look nice, is their quality good as well?
I have only seen them in the package. They look good to me and have a very good recommendation from lots of members. The nice thing about them is they are clear allowing you to watch the powder fill it, so you may not spill it as much. Can't see through brass so your blind till it gets to the top. Just depends on what you get used too. My Cash measures are 30 and 20 years old and the U-View was not around then. I've also seen the plastic one from Knight and would go with the U-View.

I like the U view, I have a rangebag for each caliber, and its in all but one, that has a t cash. (although a few bags have the brass TC slide top also) flasks are a mix of u view and brass. I like the Treso or Traditions push button pour better than the CVA/TC style lever, but thats just me
