Thanks
18 or 20 twist rate
Thanks
I would assume 45 with those twistsWhich caliber are we talking about?
what do think of 16 twist? sorry...I have shot many many bullets the last 6 years out of both the 18 and the 20 it is hands down the 18, not because I wanted to be, because it is, the 18 is the most versatile twist I personally would never recommend a 20 ,22 or 24 to anyone ever again I'm talking about 45 Cal specifically. The 18 twist will shoot all of the Light 40 cal bullets in the light blue sabot as good as the 20,22 or the 24 and in my experience actually better, the 18 will shoot anything from 180 up to the 275 grain Fury bullets I'm sorry but the 20 won't do that ,,I'm talking about jacketed bullets and smokeless loads or Black Horn loads, I'm not talking about larger lead bullets with grease grooves I understand you can shoot large lead up to the 28 and even the 48 twist. It is caused me to lose complete interest ever in a 40 cal why would I want a 40 cal Muzzleloader when I can take an 18 twist 45 and the light blue and shoot anything 40 cal from 180 up to 275 kind of makes having a 40 cal that's limited to only bore riders and finicky ridiculous what do I need a 40 if I can do anything 40 related I want to do in my 45 Cal. I have had a dozen 2012 45 Cal rifles in the last few years I've sold some of them I've rebuilt some of them some of them I still have the 2012 would only take me to the two 40 and the 250 40 cal it would not shoot anything larger at least the way I want it to. I have developed an extremely strong stance on this topic again not because of any of the three choices of twists I wanted but because of results results of multiple rifles and shooting thousands of bullets both 40 cal and 45 oh and by the way that 1812 is 45 Cal will take anything from a 250 up to a 400 grain bullet bore riding. I would encourage anyone that thinks a 20 or 24 can do that to show me the results, the 18 is the most versatile twist and the most accurate if I was building a Muzzleloader company I could build the company around just this one aspect nothing but 18 twists cut rifle and 1812 button rifle the only thing I could see better might be a Game Twist that went from 24 to 17 but that's just an idea I still don't know that it would be the 18.
Interesting info. Are these bore-riders, sabots, or other seal types? Thanks to both you and Mnt monkey.I agree with most everything you said
For me :
My personal choice for long range by caliber are
40 cal. 1-16 but could live with 1:14
45 cal 1:18 but could live with 1:20
50 cal 1:24
54 cal 1:32
