I was deer hunting and unknowingly walked in between a sow and one of her cubs. The cub started bawling, I looked around and saw the sow and another cub on my right and the bawling cub on my left. My heart rate went up to about 200 as I slowly backed up to allow the cub a straight path to its mother.
The sow chased the closest cub up a tree and the other cub went up a different tree. Then the sow climbed up after the first cub and I made a slow but anxious escape.
I was prepared to kill her if necessary but that would have got me in a whole bunch of trouble with the law. I was glad everything turned out OK.
That was only the second time I had even seen a bear in Florida. Now they're everywhere.
