So, I been following this thread for the past couple of days wanted to share my recent experience with USPS. I purchased a under hammer muzzleloader from a guy in Minnesota after reviewing pictures of the Rifle. Paid for insurance. The package was 2 days late according to their tracking, no big deal. When I received it I found that the shipping box had two folds in it. Upon opening it the stock was cracked almost in half, like someone took it on an overhead blow to a loading dock. The sight elevator had been knocked out and the trigger return spring knocked out of it's position. Contacted USPS, I was informed that the seller would have to file a claim since he shipped it regardless of the fact that I paid for the insurance. They would keep the rifle until an inspector could review damage. Long story short, went to post office, informed it could take 4-6 months for final decision. They would only pay for value amount determined by them and not the price paid or insured amount. Repair was not an option. Claim could be denied if in their opinion a used box, insufficient box or packaging was used and no reimbursement for insurance either way. I kept the rifle and repaired it myself. Insurance is useless unless it's completely lost and then they'll decide how much to reimburse you. A Gov. agency that wouldn't last a week in the private sector.
