First, thanks for your help and patience with my endless questions. Now I have another question. As I recall, I had a few 'live' shots that didn't fire. So, it seems like after cleaning I would cycle a couple of caps through before loading. The caps I have are #11 CCI magnum. What I'm wondering is what is y'alls experience with #11's? What is the most reliable brand? Well, assuming someone will ever have the freakin' things in stock again! My gun is an MK-85. I would hate to have one of those 'pop' but no fire events in the heat of battle on a hunt....

I've never had an issue with the CCI's and MK-85's. I bought a torch tip cleaner at l
Lowes. I use it to clean out the nipple. The #11breech plug on a MK is wide open back to the nipple. If you can see daylight looking down the barrel it should fire.

Not knowing your rifle of cleaning regiment (too damp), CCI have never given me an issue.
But, I also use straight black with #11.

Another vote for CCi, I use both the Magnum version and Straight 11s, I shoot Swiss Real Blackpowder in my Rifles & have never had a Problem with CCi Caps.

The RWS 1075 PLUS Caps are awesome Caps as well, But around here they Cost at least Twice as much as the CCi’s per 100 Caps, As much as i Shoot i can’t justify buying them. I have some of the RWS 1075 PLUS Caps on Hand and use them for Hunting as they Fit the Treso/Ampco Nipple Posts a Bit tighter (1075 Equals 10-3/4

I absolutely pop a cap after cleaning. The process I learned was from Knight, when I got my MK. Cleaning jag on the ramrod, push a dry patch all the way down, and pop a cap. Pull the patch out, and the scorch mark on it will tell you the nipple is clear and dry. A single cap will prove it, and give you confidence. If you still have misfires, I'd try a new nipple. They last a long time, several years under casual use, but eventually the hammering adds up.
I like the idea of the torch tip cleaner. I always just kept a paperclip in my possibles bag.

I use a little handheld Steam Cleaner for all small part stuff, including the exterior of the Nipple, and a Blast of Steam through the Flash Hole

This, Here is a Breech Plug & Vent liner out of my Knight Mountaineer, I shoot Real Blackpowder exclusively in all of my Rifles, it’s DIRTY Stuff, These little Hand Held Steam Cleaners make SHORT work of Cleaning such things

Lewis, you turned me on to this idea shortly after I joined the forum. I quickly bought a steamer. I now use it every time I clean a muzzleloader. It makes a huge difference.

I use boiling water out of a electric tea pot. I haven't used CCI in a lot of years I was getting 10-15 failures per 100. RWS when I can fined them or Remington.
