Thanks. I had not considered the gas blow out effect on the sabot. CVA is all about the power belts that slide in easy, a bit lose to start with so I guess the impact is minimal since there’s already blow by anyhow? I decided to forget about a muzzle brakeI think if you are shooting the factory recommended bullets the CVA brakes on the Acuras will be okay, I don't like a baffle brake myself shooting sabots, not that they don't work ,they do, but if you look at your sabot , often you will see or I see a half moon cut out at the base I think it as the gas is blowing out of the side baffles ,, I know CVA wants you shooting thier bullets, and if you are it will function fine out of the brake. I shoot a lot day in and day out so for me trying to control recoil is important ,but I have for the most part giving up on brakes and plastic.
For sure. I have a 338win mag I added a brake to over 30 years ago and recoil is great, it is loud!Muzzle brakes are good for reducing felt recoil. Do be careful to wear hearing protection anytime you use one.
I really want to stick with BH209 and CVA. I feel like if I use a brake and a limbsaver airtech pad (they claim 70% felt recoil reduction) I can shoot this combo. I definitely plan to hunt with max load of 66.5 by weight. When I get a brake installed, I will start with 66.5 and work down from there. If I have to go up, I will probably reevaluate my muzzy hunting future. I can still hunt archery and rifle. I just had a really great experience on my muzzy elk hunt last year and have the same opportunity this year.I'm not sure what the 70 grains by weight was as far as powder, I will assume it was Blackhorn or Triple 7, which have significant recoil ,if I were you even though I do not shoot black powder myself I would consider changing to black powder or possibly the Shooters World powder, I also would consider learning to shoot a lead bullet even though I do not shoot them, I believe with a larger lead bullet and a different powder at a lower charge your recoil would be more of a roll rather than a shark kick, what concerns me is if you switch to a muzzle brake and there's still enough snap to the recoil signature over the process of time I think it could still bother your eye, if I could afford it I would probably look out for one of the older white rifles ,or even one of the older knights with the plunger type system rather than a modern CVA which I'm a fan of but it is the health of your eyesight that matters so much and I would do everything I could to ensure that and still be out in the woods hunting elk. I plan to shoot the 350 boreloc. I might try the 290 bore driver ftx.What weight of bullet are you shooting?
Going with a lighter bullet would reduce recoil also.
I have a Accura LRX. I installed an Anarchy muzzle brake from muzzleloaders.com and it made a big difference in recoil. I haven’t noticed any accuracy problems with any projectiles including sabots. I’ve been very happy with it.On my new CVA Accura, it has a threaded barrel for a side discharge muzzle brake. Any experience based opinions on these ? I thought it might be for a suppressor
