How far past 160 yards and how much powder?

Also never been a fan of powerbelts (poor wt retention and the fact my gun never shot good groups) and have been joking for years that I used them for sinkers... Friend in Colorado still uses them because of hunting laws that prevent use of sabots. Never really used them for sinkers... 240+...

only things I would add... if shooting is prep for hunt, I suggest pellets for 2nd shots... Clean barrel first shots with powder at one target to get best cold barrel groups, dirty barrel 2nd shots at separate target with pellets for speed of reloading and to see what your gun does with warm...

Also never had problem with gunbroker... guns were always shipped to to FFL holder that accept gun for a fee... never use armslist. also never had problem selling or buying local... but always concerned about meeting a person I didn't know when I have gun and they are supposed to bring cash...

I have done it all... Lived in West Africa for almost 3 years (no electricity)... fresh roasted local coffee boiled 3 times over the fire to settle the grounds... I drank the thickest bitter sludge and loved it... Now in my old age, I am a coffee snob... I roast my own green beans (buy on eBay)...

Old post, but if anyone still looking for info, I have harvested quite a few elk with 290 grain Barnes TEZ or TMZ with thinner sabots and 120 grains 777 or Pyrodex (powder)...

Join the Utah Wildlife Network Forum... Just don't start asking for everyone's honey hole the first week... Lots of new people to Utah learning to hunt.

Just care about the wild places we hunt and the wild things (whether hunted or not) as I care about hunting... I will hunt until I can no longer climb the mountain... Hunting is Conservation... Hunters will save hunting. If "anti's" need education, who will do it?... They just need to "know"...

Here is 2015 paper if interested, but main reason lead will eventually be phased out (on public land) is lead bullets left in gut piles kills eagles & condors.

Lots of reasons we should go to copper bullets especially if your gun shoots them well (and legal to use sabots)... For elk, my TC likes Barnes 290 grain TEZ or TMZ with thinner sabots ( I think I have linked to source here before, if not, remind me and I will post it). Since I usually hunt elk...

Hi Cattledog... Since I was hunting mule deer and/or elk, used my elk load. 120 grains pyrdex or 777 and 290 grain TEZ or TMZ with thinner sabots... Found to be my best groups with Thompson Encore... And to Walking Eagle... I have 7 mm rem mag barrel I use for rifle season.
