    Ramrod Snapped Off

Thanks for all the help. Again I don't have any info on how it got this way or what's been done prior. It is a CVA .50 cal, barrel is made in Spain, not sure about the lock or stock. It's percussion, not flint and looking at the nipple it looks like it was never fired. Makes sense since the...

    Ramrod Snapped Off

Need help figuring out how to remove the lower end of a wood ramrod that is jammed in the barrel. I have a splintered end about 1/4" below the crown of the barrel. The gun is a CVA .50 cal kit gun with an octagonal barrel. My friend inherited it in that condition so I have no idea if it was...

    Bullet Casting Tips

Re: Bullet Casting Tips - pre-heating to add a small suggestion to Ed's excellent write up... When casting with a large mold, more than one mold or one with multiple cavities, I pre-heat my molds on a small single element electric hotplate which I found at a thrift store for $8. A square...

    Fluxing

from what I remember, fluxing is used primarily to help blend other metals such as tin, antimony with your lead. It's helpful when you require a harder bullet usually for a higher speed centerfire bullet. Since most ML bullets are pure lead it's really not as critical to our casting unless...

    Bullet Casting (Sub forum?)

I think it would definitely be beneficial.....maybe tie a range report or two directly to a specific mold & ML's??

#11 or Muscat caps for a sidelock??

Idaholewis, a picture's worth a thousand words. I see exactly how the hammer in the pic could miss the sweet spot on a musket cap and glance off the side. Any concern regarding heating the hammer to bend into alignment? Loss of hardening, tempering?? thx,

#11 or Muscat caps for a sidelock??

Gents, thanks for the replies...I guess extended range time is on the agenda. I'll test both caps! Ed- I do have big hands, old eyes and with this weather a larger cap with wings might make life a little easier. btw, I got that .50 LH New Englander 52Bore - Powder is another story. I have...

#11 or Muscat caps for a sidelock??

My sidelocks need to be dusted off and haven't been to the range for quite some time. Since ML season is winding down I'll have some time to clean out the cob webs. They are currently fitted with # 11 nipples. Knowing that musket caps are hotter, are there any pro's/con's to converting the...

    Bold Triggers

Thanks GM54 May go the Timney route if someone's spare bold doesn't surface. I thought I had a parts gun, but I'll be darned if I can find it!! I'm not in a hurry. Just like to wrap up loose ends. Timney makes a nice replacement. I replaced a few factory triggers with Timney's. Crisp, easy...
