Just to get acquainted, I took some .440 balls, .020 ticking with bore butter and 50 grain charges of 3f Swiss.
In spite of the HORRIBLE fiber optic sights, 3 rounders at 50 yards weren't atrocious. 3 to 3 3/4. Now I don't shoot flinters well, but for a first outing, I'm not upset. I had a Lyman frizzen fitted and used a good flint so she cut good spark.
I may need to go up to a .445 ball though. Loading the 440/0.20 didn't give the tension I was looking for. Patches were perfect. No cuts or burn throughs. She has a very good bore. No excessive tool marks and no visible pitting.
I will be looking to put a good blade and aperture sight set on her soon.
Wish I knew when she was made though. I know the records were destroyed in the fire at the TC plant. She is an early one though. # 179xx. My late bud said his dad got her new in " right after they came out". Guessing mid 70' s.
So far so good. Hoping this one grows on me.
