60 yards tops. 40 yard recovery. My girlfriend was with me and she found blood and trailed it for me. Shes a blood hound!

I believe my buck was around 8k. The others were high altitude black timber/ mix of aspen. Over 9k.

Everything was in that thick black timber staying cool. How much cooler was it in there vs the aspens? It made my ears so cold I would get dizzy.

State land no. We camp on national forest and you have to stay on trails already made, especially camping areas. We don't get harassed at all by anyone or even the Parks & Wildlife folks. They are more interested in busting ATV's riding on county roads or road hunting near a popular hiking trail.

NICE!...That's great to have a place to throw a tent up.
I just received this week my deer hunt lottery results for a national refuge ( no camping. Walk-in hunting only ) and got for both shotgun and muzzleloader seasons. I'll use my muzzleloader during both. Surplus antlerless permits go on sale tomorrow here in MA. Hope to get a particular Zone.

Some more pics from the hunt.

Did you and your Dad need to hike/hunt far at that altitude to find the game? Just wondering whether you got short-winded. I've never hunted above 2,500 feet above sea level.

It's easy for me Marty. I live at 8000ft and can go up to 11,000-12,000ft and not feel it.

Marty thats our normal hunting area buddy. If you're not used to that kind of altitude you will easily get winded. I live at 7300 feet so its not so rough, but once I get around 10k, then I feel it.
