my 2003 optima doesn't have a removable firing pin like the V1 and V2 . the link above to ebay was for a new receiver that has the removable firing pin system . so my barrel would have to attach to the new receiver and the pic from the ebay page fore it shows the pic i shared . maybe i'm a wuss ..... but i'm not comfortable with that and the trigger seems fine just dryfiring it . plus i'd rather put that $100 towards a new/better ML .... IF i do have a problem with the trigger . i appreciate the votes of confidence .... but i'm not gonna modify something that could harm me or worse .

FWIU 2003 was the first year they made the optima . i'll order the cleaning kit next week and clean everything i can reach as good as i possibly can . then i'll try firing it . i'm also gonna order a new replacement breech plug and wrench for it . it's original BP cleaned up good but i figure it cant hurt to have a backup . and i think i misspoke saying it's stainless steel , i think it may be nickle plated ..... maybe someone can correct or clarify that for me .

thanks , jeff

what ever it is the good thing is it doesn't have rust or corrosion . it does have some discoloration but i think it's just buildup from lack of cleaning .
thanks for putting up with me , jeff

I see now what you have been saying. I was going by your saying your gun was the same as the ebay one that shows the removable firing pin.
CVA recalled a lot of their old model rifles. Not sure you have one, but might be worth a call to them.

i'll call tomorrow . FWIU it was shot a lot before it was put away LOADED 10 or so years ago .
i wonder if they'll give me a new one free if it is ??? hahahaha

i called CVA today and the only recall is for (i think) two 95 and 96 models .
they also said don't use wd40 and said to use ballistol .
and i don't see anything in the hammer area i can adjust or remove . the trigger feels fine though ,
i want to clean the trigger area out because i'll be cleaning everything i can get to . so i'll just flush it with ballistol .

thanks folks , jeff

WD-40 is great for lots of things, but not for guns. It will kill primers. I cleaned my brass with it once, and it worked really well. I guess I didn't wipe it off enough, because when I had a shot at an elk, it went click instead of boom.

I know the feeling. 🥴 Then you have to wonder how long you have to wait to see if goes boom...

i've got a 2003 CVA optima that i haven't shot yet and i don't have any cleaning accessories for it . i need a longer ram rod for it and like the one in this kit . should this kit be all i need for cleaning it ?

thanks , jeff

JeffB1961, before you purchase the CVA kit, and I am a bid fan of their accessories, but you owe it to yourself to check out a small company called Eastern Maine Shooting Supplies. The kit they have for cleaning BP is as good as it gets. Wonderful rod!
