I DON’T advise cleaning patches, They are likely not Durable, and Vary in Thickness. You want Repeatability. Actual Muzzleloader Patches of Known thicknesses are Easy to get, and Plenty Cheap enough.
It is trial & Error, But a Good Rule of thumb is .018 Pillow Ticking with a .490 Ball. My advice is to Buy 2 different Thicknesses, .015 and .018 are the Most commonly used. They make Patches of All thicknesses, You can also Buy Bulk Material at places like Joannes Fabric, Even Walmart. If buying Bulk you need to Take your Dial calipers along so you can measure the Thickness
