Stephen Tucker’s (WR Whitetail) relative shot a 45cal, 545gr Pure Lead conical over 58grW BH209 to harvest a NM Elk at 405yds.
Here is the near shoulder blade - 2 shots. After his hunting partner confirmed the 1st hit, the big bull never moved - afterwards they wondered if it dead on its feet? With the confirmation he made a good shot across the valley, he shot a 2nd time off backpacks.
Nice shooting I would say!
Both bullets shattered the far shoulder blade and one was recovered under the hide.
I was glad to help him get set up a few months ago and certainly glad he was successful.
This bullet just keeps on performing.

That’s impressive to have the confidence to shot an animal that far with a conical. Well done!

Dang that’s a bigger wound than my cow had at 105 yards with a 180gn Accubond shot Last Sunday in Cody Wyoming. The shot came from a 300WM.
The two shots at 405yads is awesome!!

That is some serious long range hunting, I've not even practiced past 250 yards with a firearm. Congratulations !

400+ with a 545 .45 ML? shoot and have a sandwich while waiting for impact.. That is a lot of practice and confidence. Congrats! impressive work

BC 0.38
Time of flight: 1.03sec
Max trajectory is 51.7” @ 225yds.
Shooter had a 100yd zero, so he would have added 34.2moa to hit bullseye at 400. (no pun intended).

Most of what I shoot are groundhogs out in vegetable fields. I use a 243 Winchester with 70g TNT bullets. Not much of a challenge on a quiet day. Mostly 100 - 200 yard shots with the occasional 300 yarder. I did take a bull elk at 375 in Colorado. But that was with a 338winmag. Just not even close to the same as this shot.

Nice shooting and terminal performance, is that bullet your creations Rick?

Yes, a decade ago at Friendship on the LR Silhouette line, Professor Jason Day asked me to make him a hunting bullet. (I had never owned an in-line at that time) I suggested extending the nose on the Lyman Volunteer bullet mold and modify for a HP; target the original weight of 530gr for a 45 1:20. It wasn’t an hour later he brought me a mold he found on commercial row. I took it home and modified the mold for him. Accurate has reproduced it for quite a few since.
The rest is history as the bullet has set National records and just plain works - who would have thought.
