Looking to put a scope on a beater .50 to use for whitetail on days when the weather makes me reluctant to bring out one of my nicer rigs. Absolute maximum distance would be 150 yards so I'm leaning towards just a fixed 4x. Anyone have one that they'd recommend that will hold up to muzzleloader use?

A fixed 4x would be fine for that application. It's enough for a deer-sized target at your max range, but not so much you'd have difficulty finding your target at 20yds. I'd say Nikon makes an outstanding scope for the money. Mine held up on a 300 win mag, back when I was willing to take that much kick.

Thanks for your input. Ended up grabbing a Konus 2.5x shotgun scope on sale. Would have liked a bit more magnification but since I generally hunt in timber it really isn't a big deal. We'll see how it holds up.
