Weather is too nasty to chrono my .50 Huntsman. Sooooo....anyone have an idea as to the velocity of the following load-

2 50gr Pyro pellets
Win 209 primer
.430 (44 cal) 240gr XTP
26" barrel (but not all of that is usable due to long breech plug)

And how many yards before the XTP's velocity drops to 900 fps? .205 BC and .185 SD for that bullet.

Or less.

O.K., I see the Hodgdon booklet says 1740 fps, 250 grain I think they had. My experience is that book numbers are usually on the optimistic side.

Well I can't find my Lyman BP loading manual so I guess I'll go with 1700+/- fps.

My Chrony shows 1750 for an Omega with 100gr of RS and a tight fitting sabot with a 240 gr XTP. Advertised to have a 28 inch barrel but they count the BP. Thats with a WIN 209 which make little if any difference.

125yd 1213.6 FPS 784.9FPE
275yd 940.5 FPS 471.4 FPE

As opinions are free I am going to give you mine.
The FPS is important for trajectory but for killing power you also need to look at Foot Pounds of Enegry when your enegry drops below 800 FPE it becomes questionable to use that load at that ange for deer.
This is why some of us use heavy loads or heavy bullets or a combination of the two. A 240 gr XTP has a poor BC which hurts it for long range.

Actually the .430 240gr XTP has a much better BC and SD than the .451/.452 240 and 250gr XTP's. I am considering the .430 300gr XTP as well.

This is my elk load 125 gr Blackhorn Short black Harvester sabot and 300 grain Shock Wave The BC is .240

0 yds 2050 FPS 2799 FPE -1.5
100yds 1742 FPS 2022 FPE +3.28 Elevation
200yds 1471 FPS 1442 FPE -3.51 Elevation
