For ONLY home defense, I would go with a .45. I have a Springfield XD-40 for multipurpose use. I personally do not like Glocks for many reasons, but they are not a bad gun. The law enforcement around this use the Glock .40 as standard issue. I would also put my polymer frame gun against any other material guns are made of.

I was going to trade my XD for an XD-M when they came out, but the XD-M did fit my hand as good. Too bad because the XD-M has better sights and a better trigger.
