What powder is the most easily ignitable powder to be used in a Savage 10ml2 wiyh 209 ignition.
I tried AA2016 and it wouldnt ignite.im trying to get it right,as im tired of removing the breechplug.
Ive heard AA5744 and RE7...

Whag ignites easiest?

5744 is the easiest to ignite. Then N110 and Reloder7. Velocity is pretty bad with 5744 compared to N110 though and its much dirtier. N110 is great for a 250gr bullet and super dependable. Reloder7 is a good choice if you prefer a 300gr. N120 is also extremely good with a 300gr. Excellent speed and super clean too.

Did you take a 5/32 drill bit and clean out the breach plug flash channel? That is the #1 cause of FTF in a MLII plug. #2 would be the sabot it way too loose.

What 209 primer are you using?

Thanks. Yes i actually got a new breech plug from ASG and checked my stuff yesterday after the FTF.
Im using Federal or Remington primers.

I tried to make sure ghe sabot was packed.im using harvester sabots and a .475/325 grn bullet. I can also order some MMP sabots and use .458/300 to 400 grn bullets if the Harvester sabots arent as good withthe Savage.
So all the powder loads have to be compressed?

How much bh209 could the Savage10ml2 handle? Id rather use nitro.

Thanks again.

You dont want to use those.

MMP orange, Harvester Black Crush Rib or the new 458 crush rib with 458s is what you want. A 458 and a black crush rib will be the tightest. Usually best if you got a larger bore. Those are made for 452 but guys with loose bore like them with 458s.

After following the great advice here about using a drill bit to make sure the vent is clean, you might want to go back and try 65 grains (by weight) of the AA2015, along with a 300 grain, or 325 grain Hornady .458 diameter bullet in the MMP Orange sabot.

It should be a very tight fit, which is needed to produce the pressures necessary for combustion of smokeless powder.

BH209 is mainly made up of smokeless powder, but still contains some corrosive oxidizers.
It is a great powder, but you will still need to clean your rifle to eliminate corrosion.

At 75+, I try to learn new things all the time. Now, this is the first I've heard of using smokeless powder in a ML firearm. Could someone educate me a bit about the subject? TIA
The following is one of the best now made.

Arrowhead rifles is owned by Luke Horak, who is a mechanical engineer and a very humble guy.

I buy many of my parts from his company.

You must have a rifle designed for the higher pressures produced by the smokeless powder, in order to have a safe firearm.

The SAVAGE 10ML2 rifle is a smokeless powder muzzleloading rifle. It looks just like a centerfire with a ramrod.bolt action, scope, everything. It just uses smokeless powder. Its a .50 caliber meant to use sabots and gets about 2300 feet per second with good loads.

I use 5744 with federal primers in mine with great results. I also shoot 250 grain TC Shockwave bullets. They shot way better than all the Savage recommended combinations I tried. I did try the N120 Savage recommended load but it blew the shockwave sabots and accuracy was horrible. I may revisit that powder with the XTP’s and MMP black sabots, I didn’t try those. The Shockwaves load easily and shoot very well. Never had a problem with ignition. I do have the Arrowhead breech plug.

So Im still new to the SML, when you say it's much dirtier, can you compare it to something like bh209 for me? I have 8# of 5744 and 6# of 4198. I want to use the 5744 but if you're talking 'dirtier' like a blackpowder or sub, then i may reconsider.

Nowhere near as dirty as those. I don’t clean or swab between shots with mine using 5744 and I can shoot all day long with no troubles. Shoot it up is my advice.
