I went on my first out of state deer hunt this year. I had points and drew a tag for zone 5 Iowa first gun season. At 9:15 opening morning I wrapped my tag around the biggest buck I’ve taken to date. It was bittersweet to be able to take such an awesome buck, but at the same time my 2 year wait was over in just a couple short hours, then of course I seen a few LARGER bucks haha. I was hunting about a mile hike back on public land and loaded it out on a cart by myself. That’s some tough terrain if you hunt the ridges in the hard woods let me tell ya. Even came across some tv hunters that are from the area. They had no luck yet when they met up with me. Kinda made me feel good that I was able to harvest a nice one on my first trip out of state. I should add that I got to Iowa a week early and was able to scout for the upcoming season with fresh snow on the ground. Too bad that all melted before season started. All in all it was an awesome adventure.
