Yeah I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the omega I prefer a little more Fiield of view ang light gathering capabilities
 
With 2 piece bases on a Knight DISC type rifle, the sweet spot is no more than 4" and no less that 3.7" but some people might be able to get by with a little less. Outside of that zone you run into the rings hitting the turret or bells. Look at other scope specs too, like the room between turret and bells.

Here is a old pic of mine. As you can see there is no room left to move the scope forward.

A rail will get you at least another 1/2" or so you can move forward but that was still a bit tight for me with the Omega. It was ok with a scope that has 4" of eye relief.
