Looking at a couple of mk-85's and had a couple of questions. An earlier model had a plunger that was narrow at the end and the later model had a "hood" over the plunger. Are they both correct? If so is one better than the other? Can either be used for 209 or #11 depending on the BP? Trying to decide which to purchase. One serial number is in the 5,000's and the other in 36,000's

Both plungers are correct. Earlier models had the smaller/narrow end, later the hooded. I have had both. The earlier narrow plunger guns usually had Walther/Lothar barrels, at least mine did.

I own mk 85s with both types of plungers. While they both do the job, I feel that the newer style is an improvement because it does a better job of preventing any fragments from the cap flying toward the shooter.
I have one newer style plunger I use for my shooting. The other ones remain unused.
Good Luck!
