Ok. Same loads and very different results.
Given the larger vent vs nipple apertures, I expect some velocity loss in the flintlock. And got it. Both Renegades are flintlocks.
Bore smoothness/ ram pressure also makes a difference.
Here's the details. Charges are 70 grains of 3f Swiss, the sabots are Harvester crush ribs.
250 grain 1544 fps. 11 fps high/ low. Difference + 136 fps
230 grain 1602 fps. 16 fps high/ low.
Difference +154 fps.
200 grain 1665 fps 14 fps high/ low.
Difference 142 fps.
Trajectory was remarkably different as well.
The 230 grain hit 1 & 3/8ths higher than the 250s, and the 200 were 4 & 3/16ths higher than the 250s.
Both barrels are pre warning and differ by approx 21,000 in serial number. Neither show obvious pitting, but the elder is significantly harder to ram and has several catch points. Both show typical T/C tool marks on the lands. Recovered sabots from both barrels show no distress or scuffing. Neither plastic fouls. I've never had any barrel do that b.t.w..
I'll try to smooth things a bit and see if any improvement results. Accuracy is excellent in both, but the younger shows a definite preference for those 200 grain flying ashtrays.
Another day with the Renegade!
