Oh DEAR! Sabots in a flintlock

Although it was a tad breezy this morning, I decided to take my Renegade to the range with some 200 grain .45 XTPs.
They hit + 1&9/16ths at 50 yards. The 230 and 250 grain XTPs both hit to point of aim in earlier trips, so... MULTI LOAD ZERO! No windage adjustments necessary.

The 200s, due to their short bearing surface, loaded easily compared to the 230 and 250s.
Found one, sans jacket, and an inch across! 70 grains of 3f Swiss has them... exceeding their design limits just a tad? Haven't chrono'd them yet, but I wouldn't be surprised by 1700 fps. Give or take.

Groups were excellent! I was a bit punchy by the 3rd group, as I had put 10 through one of my Pennsylvania Hunters before grabbing the Renegade.
Her smallest 3 rounder was 3/4". The largest, with a called flyer, was 1 15/16ths.
Except for the aperture sight and replacement vent liner, this is a bone stock .50 Renegade flintlock with a 1-48 twist.
GADS! THIS IS FUN!!!

Good shooting. Ain't nothing wrong with blending the old with the new. I've shot sabots in my 50 cal flinters for years. My .58 though get a std diet of PRBs. I can't imagine shooting a monsterous .58 conical out of my Renegade. That would hurt on both ends!

You are correct about the recoil with conicals.
It gets one's attention...

Not yet. The flintlock has always challenged me. But these results give me hope!
Right now I'm limiting myself to 75 yards. Until I shoot better with the 'ol spark chucker.

I'm considering putting my gilmore red dot on it. its that big ole front sight that limits a consistent sight picture....
