knurl those bullets a bit, between a couple files, before putting them into the sabot, and i bet your group tightens up even more without changing your POI.I shoot the same sabots and bullets through my .50cal Optima V2 Rifle and Optima Pistol.
It seems they both shoot the 250 and 300gr Barnes Expander (.45cal bullet) pretty well.
I shot the Expanders with the Harvester crush rib sabots and they practically fell down the barrels. Very little pressure needed to be added to the weight of the ramrod to slide them down. Accuracy at 100yd was ok with the rifle.
About 3-4” groups.
A slightly tighter, but comfortable sabot has resulted in 2” groups at 100yd with the rifle, and I’m just fine hunting with that.
I can’t tell the difference with the pistol. At 50yd, I’m shooting 5-shot groups all within a 6” circle.
I usually hunt thick woods, and 100 yards is about as far as I expect to shoot with the rifle.
Only difference I can tell with the two weights is that out of the rifle, the 250gr groups about an inch left of the 300gr at 100yd.
I only practice with the pistol at 50yd and less.
Sorry for being so wordy, haha.
Im surprised you shoot a short bullet in a White. The 300 didnt shoot better in it?Hornady XTP, 240 in my White, 300 in the Encore and Savage. Tried many over the years but these are my go-to for hunting. The Barnes bullets in 250 and 290 shoot very similar with good expansion.
The 300 grain XTP shot good but I had a better group with the 240’s so I went with it. It’s also a short barrel White Lightning. I also have a Whitetail that likes the heavier bullets but haven’t hunted with it.Im surprised you shoot a short bullet in a White. The 300 didnt shoot better in it?
Have you used those STBs on deer yet? If so, how did they do?Knight LRH 50 cal, 84gr weighed BH209, Fury .452 265gr STB, Traditions Ridgeback sabot
