Man one of those horns would make a nice powderhorn Ron

Al,
It would take 2 people to lift it to fill the powder measure!
I never have seen horns on cattle like that!

Ditto Ron.  If you do ever come down under, don't be shy, get in touch.

Cheers

Thank you, Gentlemen!

When some of the South Africans came to visit here in Colorado, I took them to the shooting range and introduced them to traditional muzzleloaders. This is David on his first black powder shoot:

He could get a sense of what it was like when the Dutch derived pioneers had to fight Zulu and Xhosa tribesmen as they went north in their wagons to escape British dominance. Called "Vortrekkers," they put their wagons into "lager", the same as circling the wagons, then stuffed Acacia trees with big thorns between each wagon. When the Zulus attacked, the Vortrekkers would fire one flintlock while the wife and children reloaded another.
David felt a connection to his heritage as he loaded, cleaned and shot the flintlock. His sister and brother-in-law came to visit and had the some opportunity to shoot the flintlock.

Correction: The picture labeled "Hartebeest" really is a Waterbuck. Seems I posted the wrong photo.
Thanks to Patocazador!
