DEEPCURL® HANDGUN HUNTING
.451 300 gr.
Item #3974
Anybody have any experience with these? Was thinking this might be a good short range deer "thumper". I was going to load some up with 80 gr. of BH209 and see how they do.

I also saw these. Anybody tried these?
JACKETED HANDGUN PLINKING BULLETS
.451 300 gr.
Item #4485

The 4485 is a tough bullet. Its actually a renamed Uni-Cor. Same bullet they just changed the packaging a little.

300gr DeepCurl is a better bullet for most people.

What about these? Anybody try these before? Wonder if they would act like the .451 300 gr.?

JACKETED HOLLOW POINT RIFLE BULLET
.458 300 gr.
Item #2482

The hollow point on those really isnt much of a HP. Fairly popular though with Savage MLII owners that shoot 458s. Its tougher than many of the 458 300gr HPs from other companies.

If you dont want really heavy loads the Sierra 458 300gr FNHP is a dandy bullet. Jacket is thin and the lead is soft. Sierra made this bullet for Trap Door 45/70 type speeds.

I have been "eyeballing" these too.

If you don't mind, I would like to suggest a Lehigh .452x265CF-HP bullet. This is proving to be a really great all-around bullet (elk/deer). The CF theory that the bullet utilizes has great Terminal Ballistics and with te energy it carries id very good for elk to 200 yards.

Note: this ballistic sheet was computed using BH-209 shooting 120gr. by volume

And then just to throw out there as GM54-120 has suggested another good bullet is the Sierra .458x300 JHP. This a very good bullet and shoots very accurately. I am cheap so I buy these for recreational shooting and target practice, but make no mistake they are a very acceptable hunting bullet.

That's what I was kinda looking for, a 300 gr. bullet, that I could use a lower load like 56 gr.(wt) of BH209. Then I saw the both semi-spitzer sp and FN FB Barnes Original Bullets 45-70 Government (458 Diameter) 300 Grain, I figured you would have to push them harder.

I spotted these too. How do these do with lower loads?

Hello LBAhunter,
I am a newbie getting back into BP Rifles after a long break doing other things.
We are wanting information on actual results using the Speer # 4485 300 grain soft point in .45 loaded in 50 cal sabots.
Will it expand some or fairly well? We have seen where its listed as a plinker but can it perform well enough hunting.
Thank you for any help.

If you want a great reliable 300gr bullet then go with the .452 Gold Dot Deep Curl bullets they are very accurate and mushroom great . I've used them in the past and had good luck with them. Makes for a very bad day for animals

Thanks to all who responded about using Speer # 4485 300 grain soft point, it is a cheaper round, we wanted input as to its performance.

Thanks for the reply maybe I am shopping online at other sites we will compare prices again.
The question asked originally remains about performance if anyone has experience.

These are very good bullets. They have performed very well on several deer which ended in our freezer. Damage to deer tissue is extensive. These bullets also fly well compared to many others. The last batch purchased cost 25¢ each. The only con that comes to mind, is some time it sells out, and is unavailable for purchase.

Because they have worked so well on game, we wanted to see what they looked like after being shot, so used water jugs to 'catch' some at different ranges.

You folks make a compelling argument for the deep curl. If I didnt have a less expensive alternative already I would be ordering some. I dont seem to get to much interest in the fact that I am shooting deer with one shot kills, drop on the spot, inexpensive bullets from GT Bullets. I am using the .429 305 grain ($.18) and my buddy is using the .429 255 grain ($.17). Blood trails are massive and 50 yards is the farthest a (1) deer has gone. I buy 250-500 at a time. cheaper yet. I can shoot all I want. Accuracy is excellent. Im shooting a Wolf and he a Deerstalker. I use 100 gr loose T7 he uses 100 gr T7 pellets. At least try some for practice or plinking.
