Well got to go the range yesterday morning for a little while and took the crony and here are the preliminary results since I plan on doing more testing.
I used a Knight Wolverine 26" barrel that I had from a friend of mine to check it out for him and I'm glad I did because I was almost done when I notice that the scope bases were loose but I finish any way. Here are the results:

STRING 1
180 GR. TC SUPER 45 XR SABOTS
110 GR. BH 209
FIOCCHI 616 209 PRIMER

1ST SHOT- 2146 FPS
2ND SHOT- 2123 FPS VELOCITY TOTAL= 6413 VELOCITY AVERAGE= 2138
3RD SHOT- 2144 FPS

STRING 2
180 GR. TC SUPER 45 XR SABOTS
110 GR. BH 209
FIOCCHI 616 209 PRIMERS

1ST SHOT- 2134 FPS
2ND SHOT- 2218 FPS VELOCITY TOTAL= 6551 VELOCITY AVERAGE= 2184
3RD SHOT- 2199 FPS

MUZZLE ENERGY IS 1866 FP

IF YOU LOOK AT THE 30-06 VELOCITIES USING A 180GR. BULLET LOADED TO MINIMUM THE DIFFERENCE IN VELOCITY IS ABOUT 211 TO 387 FPS AND IF YOU COMPARE TO A MAX LOAD THE DIFFERENCE IS ABOUT 416 TO 490 FPS AND THE FOOT POUNDS OF ENERGY IS ALMOST LIKE A 30-06.
IN MY BOOK THE 45 CALIBER MUZZLE LOADER ARE THE WAY TO GO BUT I WILL CHECK AND COMPARE THE 50 CALIBER. THIS SABOTS THAT I SHOT SUNDAY IS NOT REALLY WHAT I WANTED TO START WITH BUT THAT IS ALL I HAD WITH ME AT THE TIME. I WILL CONTINUE TO DO SOME MORE TESTING AND KEEP YOU INFORMED BUT THIS A START.

Awesome report using BH209 with your new crony! Very interesting to say the least.

Hello from Germany!

I like these .45er testings because here in Germany .45 is a most available and most used ML cal. Here we have more ML target shooter than ML hunters, but many hunters hold a .45 ML in their hands not believing that they have a dependable hunting rifle. Most rifles are these Investarm .45er Hawkens (like the Cabelas) which have a 1 in 48" ROT. So sabots and Thors can be used very well. A .45 with a stout load and a conical can bring down every game walking here in Germany!

Regards

Kirrmeister

The extreme spread for the first string is excellent. Did you shoot for a group too or just watching you didn't hit your screens!! That's what I usually do. I would bet that would be a tight group
