Its crazy how little powder you get back from peppers like jalapeno and Anaheim. I dried a pound of each just for a green powder blend. I havent weighed the dried pieces yet but i doubt its a couple ounces. Hatch and jalapeno powder on SpicesInc can run over $10 for a 4oz bag.

The organic can cost even more and mine were grown with ZERO pesticides and almost totally organic nutrients.

Granted if you go upto a 1lb bag you save a huge amount but thats a LOT of powder. I only buy Korean pepper flakes in large amount because they are great in lots of stuff and i can get them for $8/2.2lbs locally. I just toss the bag in the freezer and it will keep for ages.

Move upto dried supers and the cost is insane. $50 for a 4oz and that just for ghost. Ive got pods twice as hot as ghosts.

$67/4oz of Reaper powder and SpicesInc has some of the better pricing online too.

This is one i fell in love with last year. Its called Aji Panca. Its a mild seasoning pepper from Peru. Almost jalapeno hot but the flavor is completely different. My pods this year are massive vs last year and i grew 9 plants so i should have a good supply of dried pods. Online they cost over $12/4oz of dried pods and none of our specialty markets sell them. They take forever to ripen. Im just now getting ripe pods.

Oh yea your right, it takes a surprising bunch of them to make much powder. It took about 15lb Jalapenos to get just shy of 2lb of powder. Jalapenos are pretty juicy. I can get the powder from one grocery store here, but this powder I made was WAY better. I had taken some of the store bought stuff home and they liked it so we decided to try doing this. I shipped several shaker bottles of the first batch I dried and ground home so everyone tried it, just to get an idea what they thought. They ALL want this stuff we made, My brother already gave the store bought stuff I gave him away.:D My Brother grew them in his garden. He would shipped them to me so that I got them on Thursday and I started on them Friday and was done Sunday evening or Monday before work. These had absolutely nothing applied to them in the garden (like pesticides), so its about as organic as it can get. He don't seem to have any issues with anything bothering the peppers, our ground on the farm just seems to love growing them. Although last year the deer got the new Jalapeno plants, but left the Serrano alone. That still sunrises me. Water can be an issue sometimes as it seems by mid summer the rain seems to always go around them. So he just has to water them some in the evenings. It got very dry this summer so were done this year.:( This should hold us till next year though.

Gm, Thanks for the Tips you gave me getting started!

How did the Hanging basket type drier work out? Do those need to be in direct sun or just outside where the light and air gets to them?

This was about a dozen Hatch and exactly a dozen jalapeno. All seeds removed first. It made 56grams of powder. Around 10 tbs worth. Flavor is off the charts.

I take it the pepper plantation has done well this year? We're supposed to see the mid-30's here tonight so my garden will likely be done for the year. Been great for green peppers, green beans, tomatoes and carrots though.

Cool temps hit today and will probably last this time. 91F yesterday and 73F today. Just picked one of my last bunches i will get. Some really nasty big brown ghosts and another larger chocolate colored pepper called aji panca. Both are very long season peppers. I got 1 nice last pick of Dragons Breath and 4 Naglah browns today too. Dehydrator has been running nonstop for days.

This hit the spot. White chicken chilli. Jalapeno/Anaheim powder from the garden and just a tiny bit of Aleppo powder at serving
MhT6bbo.jpg

Easy white bean chilli

Can of cream of chicken soup
2 Cans of white beans
Meat from a couple baked chicken thighs added near the end so it holds together.
Can of chicken meat so it shreds good in the chilli
Williams White Chilli mix
Extra cumin to taste
White pepper to taste
Pinch of Mexican oregano
Jalapeno and or Anaheim powda
Chicken stock (no salt added) to thin to your liking
Handful of frozen corn

Heat it all in a pot
Eat

I ran out of Great Whites so had to use a can of pintos too. Celery flakes or fresh celery is a good idea too. I used flakes. The Williams mix is salt free but this needed no salt. The cream of chicken soup and salt in the cans of beans is plenty. My can of pintos was actually salt free too.

If you dont have Mexican oregano use a spicy oregano. Ive made better White Chilli but this is something you can toss together almost anywhere such as a campsite. It dont need a super long cook time. Very little needs refrigeration. You could use all canned chicken if needed. They even sell dehydrated cooked corn on Amazon. Herbox has salt free chicken bullion in packets or jars.

Already getting ready for next year. Aji Amarillo seeds arrived and got some isolated Antep Aci Dolma seeds coming from Fords Fiery Foods. Mine came from a vendor in Australia and i really wanted the ones from Fords. Aji Amarillo is a milder huge orange pepper from Peru. Stupid long growing season pepper like my Aji Panca. They use it for a sorta mild creamed chicken dish called Aji De Gallina.

Most of my basement stays cooler than i prefer for seedlings. So this year im moving some into the insulated room downstairs with a heat duct. I need to clear out a little stuff from the closet in that room. Then turn it into a "grow tent" with Reflectix mylar insulation. A 25ft roll is on sale atm. Use just enough to make a reflective hood in the closet.

I have thought of Doing the EXACT Same thing, Especially now that i have Wood Heat down there, Though I don’t always Keep a Fire, My Basement is Completely unfinished Cement Floor/Walls. I just looked at 1/2” insulauor Board 4X8 Sheets with probably Reflextix Mylar? It had 1 side with a Shiny “Space Blanket” Reflector stuff on it. Put your Hand against that Stuff and you can Feel your own Heat IMMEDIATELY

Reflectix looks like this. Sorta like bubble wrap with mylar foil on both sides. 16"x25ft roll is $20 or less. ATM its on sale cheap here https://www.menards.com/main/buildi...nsulation-16-x-25/st16025/p-1444452049026.htm

To do a entire wall you want the board type stuff. Eagle Shield was what ive used in the past. Its more like foam board with foil. Not nearly as shiny though. 4ft wide rolls of Reflectix are expensive.
About $10 for a .5"x4ftx8ft sheet. One side is fairly shiny. They do offer it without printing too.

Finished off each bottle with 1 Tsp of maple syrup, 1 Tsp lime juice and since i thought it needed just a little more zip....1 tsp of Burns&McCoy. Its still pretty mild compared to most sauces using super hots. Imagine A1 steak sauce with some heat to it.

Its Brown Bhuts, Naglah Browns and Aji Panca peppers with Caribbean spices and some black garlic. If you ever had Jamaican Pickapeppa sauce you would have an idea of the flava mon.

Yep, that will work but no stores within 100miles of me stock it. One side looks pretty shiny in the video.
