I took my 12 yr. old. grandson out with me deer hunting for the first time this morning.Temp's were in the 30's with light rain.I made sure he was dressed for the conditions. He managed to step in a ditch with knee high water that I told him to hop over.Wet feet.Well he couldn't sit still and by 8:00 he was asking to head out.I gave it another 20 min., then we headed out.I didn't want to spoil it by being a hard ass for fear that he wouldn't want to go with me again.I didn't have any expectations of seeing any deer. I just wanted to give him a taste of what it was like. He's from the suburbs and hasn't had a lot of exposure to the great outdoors.I'm sure we will try it again. The smoke pole is still loaded and ready to go.The ML season ends on the Jan. 1. then its yotes and crows.Happy New Year - Everybody!

Got my mountaineer tuned up at 200 yards. The powder measurement is by weight. This was with a 10 mph cross wind. I expect on a calm day it would even be better.
How do you like the knight components and did they work well right away? I had my peregrine out to 200yds today. Definately different from the mountaineer but some little pains along the way. Parker 225 match hunters. 2100fps 127gbw pyrodex

I do not understand your question on the components. I do really like knight rifles though. I think they have great fit and finish.

This weekend was the first late antlerless gun season in Illinois. I did not have any luck. I chronographed my hunting load when I shot it to empty it. 45 Cal Knight Mountaineer, 275 grain Parker BE, Felt wad, 82 Grains of BH 209 by weight was 2140 FPS. I was pretty impressed by that. After that I cleaned it.

Bought 600 Winchester 230 grain .45 caliber jacketed hollow points for $240, from the same shop that produced 1500 Remington 200 grain .35 caliber round nose Core Lokts last year.
Haven't seen these for ages. GOOD bullets for muzzleloaders. Smacked a fine doe with one back in '09. Did a fearful job on her. Impact sounded like a base drum. " THUMP".
Dug several out of the backstop. Great expansion, and they held their cores like the lead was soldered to the jacket.
But, they measure .450 in diameter. I'm hoping this small reduction in diameter will help mitigate the hard ramming in my flintlock Renegades.
