TC Black Diamond Super 45XR. Big lead.

I have on hand 4 brands of black powder: Goex red can 2Fg & 3Fg, Schuetzen 2Fg & 3Fg, Swiss 1.5 F, 2F, 3F, and OE 1.5F, 2F, 3F. In my shooting Goex red can and Schuetzen are the same in regards to fouling, accuracy, and velocity. Swiss (as everyone knows) is in a different league than those two...

    CVA Mountain Rifle info

Is the .45 caliber a 1-66" twist or is that just the .50? Most .45 round ball twists I've seen are some where in the 1-48" range.

My Pedersoli Rocky Mtn Hawken is Worthless!

Here's another sad but true estate sale fact. Your mounts (taxidermy) are worthless. Almost all deer/elk shoulder mounts go in the dumpster after the sale. I've seen it too many times. Sometimes a moose head will sell for a few dollars. I saw a buffalo robe bring $300 once. That was the most I...

My Pedersoli Rocky Mtn Hawken is Worthless!

On a Side Note, Why not list the Pedersoli on these Forums? At least it will be seen by guy’s that understand Muzzleloaders, Just takes 1 Right guy and you both are Happy :yeah: Exactly. Sell the rifle where the correct audience is. I've seen at these estate sales where the children just...

Extreme long range muzzle loading REAL

My reaction to the 94 grains of smokeless was just my amazement and being ignorant to smokeless muzzleloaders. I had no idea such an engine existed in the greater ML'er world. I have no doubt that the rig can handle it, I'm just blown away. I just got in from shooting a whopping 85gr. Swiss 2F...

Extreme long range muzzle loading REAL

94 grains of smokeless powder!? Holy cow. I've seen Bestill post on this site for years and heard him referenced to in posts but I really didn't pay attention to what kind of rifle work he did. Last week I was loading up some 375 H&H for my Ruger No.1 with 80.0 grains of H4350 and a 300gr...

My Pedersoli Rocky Mtn Hawken is Worthless!

If you ever go to a public gun auction or estate sale of a deceased gun crank and they have a few muzzleloaders, the gun buying public ignores them. The auctioneers can barely get a bid on a muzzleloader whether inline or side hammer in my area. Most used ML'ers have pitted, frosted, rusty bores...

    Muzzleloader Accuracy Tips

Agreed. I have a device made by Straight Shooter Co. that is a double end palm saver for a ramrod that has a spring inside. The spring loaded end is to keep seating force the consistent shot to shot. I think they come in 40, 60, or 80# models. Lewis mentioned using a beam scale and I agree as I...

    Rebore

I had Norman Johnson of High Plains Reboring & Barrels in Turtle Lake, ND take my Remington stainless 700 ML from .50 to .54 after I lent it to a friend for ML'er season. He fired Pyrodex pellets in it and didn't clean it for two weeks which resulted in the breech end looking like alligator...

    .36 Cal Mold (ALREADY!)

It is amazing that they shoot so well. I have a Green Mnt. IBS .36 barrel I bought from Dixie GW back in '88 that my T/C Hawken wears. The factory .50 barrel has been in the safe unused for decades. I shoot PRB's out of it mainly even though I have a T/C .36 Maxiball mold. A couple summers ago...

    Muzzleloader Barrel Leading

I would agree with you Lewis. Red can Goex, Schuetzen, and Pyrodex, in my testing, most times don't need a wad in your standard 1-48" twist T/C, CVA, Lyman. Sometimes a certain rifle might prefer a wad but most .50 and .54 replicas using those powders don't and sometimes shoot worse with the...

    Casto Armory longrifle

I wish Lyman would publish an updated Black Powder manual (3rd edition). None of those loads in the book use T7, Swiss, OE, or Blackhorn. Red can Goex and Pyrodex can't come close to the power of Swiss/T7. As far as the rifles go I too want more spec's. The thing that made me raise an eyebrow...

    Casto Armory longrifle

I also posted this in the inline section. I found some videos on Youtube about castoarmory.com and their Longrifle hybrid. They make these fullstock Longrifles for bullet shooting. I've never heard of them before.

    Casto Armory

Anybody ever heard of Casto Armory? I stumbled on some of their videos on Youtube. They make a kinda hybrid Longrifle for bullet shooting in .45, .50, .54, .58 and a long barreled inline. castoarmory.com

    No Excuse Sabot bullets

Just a FYI item: Buffalo Bullet Co. is back now located in Carson City, NV. The plan is to reintroduce the complete line of projectiles over time. Right now they are starting with the .50 cal 385gr. hollow base hollow point and the .50 cal ball-et. They used to have some really long petal sabots...

I use platinum lined nipples in my repro Whitworths and Volunteer rifles exclusively. They last so much longer

    Powerbelt bullet ?

The 385gr. Hornady Great Plains is a hollow base design and as such I wouldn't use a wad when shooting it. Powder charge will depend on what kind of powder you're using. Triple 7 or Swiss BP I would use 75-80gr. but Pyrodex or Goex Red can would be 90-100gr. Soft lead bullets shoot great at...

    Viability of casting for hunting

Agreed. Pure dead soft lead doesn't like high velocity even when in a sabot in my experience. Air cooled wheel weights works great in sabots and will expand in game when driven at the speeds BH209 is capable of.

Help me get started with super 91 in .451

Good for you! I have been using the Lyman 457121 mold for decades now. I originally got it when I bought my PH Whitworth repro rifle. That bullet has shot great in every .45 cal ML'er I own (White 98, PH & Euro arms Whitworth and Volunteer, Navy Arms Creedmoor, home made Rigby target rifle)...
