350g Speer Hot-Cor--80g Blackhorn

shguns sent these 350g Speer Hot-Cor bullets to test. This morning, the load was the 350g bullet, 80g Blackhorn, orange sabot, and W209 primer. Range to the carpet was 25 yard.

Some may view that as a fail. If you shoulder shoot your game, expect a raking shot or are after game larger than deer- I would like that construction. I would've expected a better mushroom from a .45/70 bullet, though.

Oops, i neglected to mention that the jacket alone weighs 101.9 grain. The photo kinda shows how small the core is compared to the whole bullet.

I was expecting that this bullet stay together better but it did penetrate alot of stuff!

Some may recall Ron tested the .458 Hornady version last summer -

Similar results if you ask me.
Perhaps more expansion would be the result if more powder was used? 90 - 100 grains?
