Hey guys. Wondering if anyone has any advice on a good way to clean the breech area, especially the threads. I have a Knight Mountaineer and it’s a little tough to clean that area, and the bolt area too.

Thanks everyone

I give my wife the credit.
I shoot real Black and they clean everything well, including my hands.

Simple, easy and it works. Tear the wipe to fit.

52Bore - dumb question, but is that just a range rod with a slit in it?

Pretty good idea u got right there.

Yes, just a wooden rod.
This one is Ebony, because I had the short piece in the shop..

It evaporates, but I do use gun oil after cleaning.

I like it. Probably the route I’m gonna go. How do those wipes clean breech plug grease?

I just get another wipe and wipe off the breech plug threads.

What about he threads in the breech area? Does spinning the wipe in the threads take it off pretty good?

Yep, spin and works better than I imagined..
You can kinda control the amount of 'fluid' on the wipe by wringing it out in your hand. It's no secret - it works well.

Awesome thanks man! Nothing is better than an effective yet inexpensive method.

I've got a mess of cleaning stuff from the old shotgun days and I use a bore brush that just fits in the breech end. I follow the brush up with the wet patches as described. It's amazing what that loose brush will ferret out of those threads.

X2 what MrTom said.

This is what I use...

Spray a little BirchWood Casey 2-in-1 bore cleaner on the brush - insert and spin the drill chuck counter clockwise...

I really like that split rod idea. Thanks for sharing!

I don't know what Knight has for breach plug thread and pitch diameter but Remington, Ruger and the TC Omega all use the same size threads on their plugs. TC makes a hard plastic tap that fits the breach threads and works good specially if one uses tape on the breach plug.
