Any advice on cleaning the breech area/threads?

Agree... and I use a 5/8" cut wood dowel just for that - and again turned by hand. The fresh cut on the of the dowel makes the perfect abrasion level to clean the BP shelf off with.

I would agree. I don’t have too tough of time cleaning the actual breech plug, just the threads inside the gun.
