I have two CVA Scouts that were originally chambered for 44 mag. One is now chambered for 444 Marlin, while the other is also chambered for 445 SuperMag. I have had some other work done to the rifles (i.e.new recoil pads, NP3 finishing). I have found if you are using the OEM stocks, taking off the recoil pad and stuffing the voids in the stock with rubber foam helps a lot. I replaced the OEM stocks with thumbhole stocks made for the CVA Optima, just based on preference for a thumbhole set up. When the new recoil pads were installed, the gunsmith had to use expoxy inside the stock, so I removed the foam; the epoxy kept the stock from sounding hollow.
Anyway, I the stocks have held up well for me, and replacements are pretty cheap from CVA. Overall, these rifles have been accurate, and trouble free for me. I love single shot rifles; while I have been around semiauto ARs (also full auto), Benellis, and Sigs/Glocks for work for over 23 years now, when it comes my hunting rifles, weatherproof single shots are my favorites, regardless of cost. The only semi auto long guns I personally own are my Browning Maxus II DSG, and my Beretta Xtrema.
PM me if I can answer any specific questions for you.
